The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology Foundation (HKUST Foundation) hosted its first lunch reception on December 8, 2025, at the JW Marriott Hotel Hong Kong. The event brought together over 100 distinguished guests, including generous donors, accomplished alumni, and dedicated supporters of HKUST, creating a warm atmosphere of gratitude.

Before the event began, a minute of silence was observed to honor the victims of the Tai Po fire tragedy. The reception commenced with a heartfelt welcome address from the Foundation’s Chairman, Professor Albert IP, who emphasized the vital role donors play in advancing the University’s mission. Following this, HKUST President Professor Nancy Y. IP delivered an inspiring speech that set the tone for the gathering, highlighting the importance of giving. She also provided an enlightening progress update on the new School of Medicine and future plans, showcasing HKUST's commitment to nurturing the next generation of clinically excellent, technology-savvy doctors.

A highlight of the event was the presentation of certificates of appreciation to the inaugural cohort of HKUST Foundation Patrons and Members, honoring their invaluable contributions to the University's mission and vision.

The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks by HKUST Vice-President for Institutional Advancement, Professor Charles NG, who expressed deep appreciation for the ongoing support from all attendees. This gathering not only celebrated past achievements but also fostered a sense of community and collaboration as HKUST looks forward to future endeavors.

The HKUST Foundation, established by the University Council in December 2023, is dedicated to raising essential funds to support the sustainable development of our institution. Its key objectives are:

  • To promote the University’s vision, mission and values to the wider community and garner goodwill;
  • To strengthen the University’s fundraising capabilities by taking a leading role in identifying and soliciting private funding;
  • To recognize donors and supporters of the University and steward them for continuous contributions; and
